Fret , secret, search…

Crisis, ambitions, mission…

Two 1776 storylines:

Faith Clarke has been summoned back home by her family members to see her dying mother one last time. Mother reveals a startling secret to a family member.

Jeremy Butler has been asked by George Washington to come to a meeting concerning the next moves in the ongoing rebellion.

Varying scenarios. One storyline deals with a family with a huge secret. The other plot involves the possible assassination of Benjamin Franklin. This book DEFINITELY held my attention!

Very descriptive / detailed writing - ex: the challenging carriage ride from Va to Philadelphia and the description of the PA countryside. I could “see and hear” the sights and sounds of the area. Sure made me think of Lancaster (PA) area!

The author was able to paint a picture of these early years of the US. She was able to portray the families, daily lifestyles, fashions, ambitions, and attitudes of the times. The tenacity of many was clearly explained. Bates also depicted the conflict / uncertainty of that time period.

This book interested me clear to the surprise ending! Both storylines meshed together nicely at the end. You should enjoy this one if you are a fan of historical fiction, along with mystery / suspense.

This is Book #3 of a series. I was able to follow the characters and plots without reading the first two books. Pamper yourself and read all three!

A lot of unexpected things happens in this book. A man is found dead, secrets from the past unveils and truth comes out with revenge. So many revelations are being made. There are so many characters and multiple perspectives. The book has it all; history, mystery, revenge, secrets and suspense. The twists and turns were unpredictable. The 18th century setting is so good and all the facts are accurate. I loved the twist at the end.

Jeremy comes to help Faith and soon they ventures on a mission to Philadelphia. Then Faith gets to know about her mother’s deteriorating health while Jeremy is summoned by General. Faith’s mother is harbouring a secret and then the revelation of child born out of wedlock comes out. Franklin must be kept safe at all cost as someone doesn’t want them to rise and stand against betrayals and injustice. The secrets are too deep and the truth is twisted. The author wrapped it up well and the twists kept me on toes.

British colonial period was not good for anyone, they tried to wrack the economy. Slavery and legal system were introduced by them.

This is the 3rd book in the author's Faith Clarke series, but I read it as a standalone. This book was incredibly interesting. It was actually my 1st historical fiction read set during the Revolutionary War.

It's the summer of 1776, Faith Clarke and Jeremy Butler are traveling from Williamsburg, VA, to Philadelphia, PA. Both have business to attend to. Faith needs to go to her hometown to visit her dying mother and make peace. Jeremy has been called up by General Washington to deal with a crisis impacting the Continental Congress.
Faith's mother requests one thing of her to find the daughter she had to give up. Faith is determined to find her so her mother can pass peacefully. Her older sister Hannah is the only one who seems to want to help. Meanwhile, Jeremy's mission is to keep a member of the congress, Benjamin Franklin, safe from an assassin. Jeremy is staying with Faith's sister Hannah in Philadelphia, and Hannah is willing to lend a helping hand. They need to figure out who's behind these assassination attempts. Can they do it before it's too late? Can Hannah also find her half-sister for her mother?

Told in multiple POVs, this book held my attention until the very end. The story was compelling and gave me a glimpse into life in 1776. The mystery was definitely intriguing, and I really liked how everything tied together in the end. I really enjoyed it and would most definitely recommend it!

RISE TO REBELLION by Julie Bates
The Third Faith Clarke Mystery

When Faith Clarke receives word that her mother is dying, she reluctantly leaves her tavern in Virginia and heads to Philadelphia to try to make peace with the woman. She’s accompanied by the taciturn Jeremy Butler who has his own mission in Philadelphia, assisting delegates from the colonies. Both encounter multiple challenges. Faith is stunned to learn she has a half sister whom her mother begs her to find. Butler discovers a plot to harm Benjamin Franklin himself! In a world where no one can be trusted and danger lurks in every corner will the pair be successful?

In RISE TO REBELLION two disparate stories are seamlessly intertwined to create an atmospheric period piece. Themes of coming home, family, and acceptance can be found along with the mystery of just who is out to harm members of the Continental Congress. The characters are multifaceted and I enjoyed getting to know Faith’s sister, Hannah. I appreciated seeing our forefathers as real people. It was especially great fun reading about Benjamin Franklin. I’m still giggling about his air bath.

The third Faith Clarke Mystery gives us humor, a bit of romantic tension, and more than one adrenaline rushing scene. Talk about a family reunion! Vivid descriptions and historical detail bring veritas to the story. I felt the stifling heat, heard the clicks from wooden shoes, and saw a prosperous and vibrant city.

Filled with intrigue, drama, and more than one surprise RISE TO REBELLION is a captivating Colonial era mystery.

MY THOUGHTS -

My second one by this author and enjoyed it just as much. Julie Bates has a way of making history come alive between these pages. All those boring history textbooks in high school… they should’ve just had you read one of Julie’s books. I think I would have liked it much better. I might have actually done my homework then LOL.

Faith travels to visit her ailing mother. while she is there her mother askes her to do the impossible. To find her illegitimate sister that she knew nothing about. It was her mother‘s last dying wish. So she could make peace.

At the same time, while they are there, assassination attempts on poor Ben Franklin are happening, and a few deaths thrown in. Jeremy Butler with well known characters like George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and John Hancock, an all star cast (so to speak), try to solve the mystery.

A very exciting and interesting story. Author Julie transports you back to 1776 during Revolutionary War time. This all felt very realistic. If you are a history buff or a fan of historical fiction give this series a try. Each of the three books can be read as a stand-alone.

I voluntarily posted this review after receiving a copy of this book from Partners in Crime Tours - Thank You!!

Revolutionary War dignitaries come to life in a fascinating 18th-century mystery in Philadelphia.

Author Julie Bates delivers Rise to Rebellion, the third installment in the Faith Clarke Mastery series. What initially appears as two separate storylines come together with the political unrest serving as a common theme.

Jeremy Butler is investigating assassination attempts involving top leaders of the Rebellion against England, such as Benjamin Franklin and John Hancock.

Meanwhile, Faith’s visit to her ailing mother reveals a secret that must be resolved. Faith’s sleuthing skills are put to the test, especially in light of criticism from other family members.

As the political climate heats up, knowing who to trust becomes more of a challenge. Faith and her sister join Jeremy in their search to find answers.

While many historical details can be found in dusty textbooks, the author makes them relatable as the mystery unfolds.

Rise to Rebellion serves as a top-notch historical mystery highlighting the challenges leading up to the Revolutionary War. ~ Amy for Novels Alive

3rd book in the series. Having read book #1, I can say they are definitely written so you can read them as standalones.
The author, Julie Bates, wrote in multiple view points which started as two storylines. By the time I reached the surprise ending, the story has meshed incredibly! Studying history in school to me was boring and tedious. Julie writes in a way that engrosses the reader to stay fixated until the end and then want to research even further when done. I never knew that Ben Franklin has a son theat was a loyalist while he was a patriot! Definitely had to research and learn more about this.

I love that she writes in the 1700 time periods around the Revolutionary War and the unrest leading up to it. The scenarios of rebellion of the American colonies is described so well you can picture the characters the builsings etc. Her characters sound very realistic and sincere. I would definitely recommend this book is mystery and history intrigue you

Many thanks to #partnersincrimevbt and the author, #juliebates72,
for an ARC copy of this historical fiction/ murder mystery. I have read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
