Jeannette de Beauvoir is the bestselling author of the Sydney Riley (Provincetown) mystery series and the Martine LeDuc (Montréal) mystery series. She also writes some historical fiction out of a true love of the past and a desire to make her decades of student loan payments for history degrees make sense.

She always writes about strong and smart female protagonists, perhaps in the hope that one day she'll be more like them.

She lives in a small cottage at the tip of Cape Cod and begins her days with a walk on the beach. Well, most days. February is a little challenging.

Sydney and Ali have just gotten married, finally, when an uninvited guest drops into their wedding reception. Literally drops in from an upper floor of the hotel. Most women would have run screaming but not Sydney, this is not her first body. But it did cause the reception to end a bit earlier than expected bet the guest will never forget this wedding.

Sydney and Ali were given a very unique wedding gift, a week in a historical shack on the beach. No internet, no cell service and no air conditioning. You would think being on her honeymoon would stop Sydney from wanting to investigate the death. She has two good reasons to investigate, it was her wedding and he was a guest in the hotel where she is part owner.

While walking around the sand dunes she happens upon an older man, Cyril Stevens, who is basically a resident of the dunes. In addition to Cyril Sydney also meets Ranger O’Connell.
When Sydney and Ali’s week on the dunes are over and they get back to the hotel they find out that the deceased was an attorney and he was there on business that had to do with the dunes. Probably building on them, which is not allowed at the moment but there are always ways if you know the right wheels to grease. Sydney remembers her two new friends from the dunes and the possibility they may be able to help with her investigation into what he was doing at the hotel and who he met with.
From this point Ali goes undercover, Sydney gets caught in a bomb blast, Sydney gets threats about what can happen to Ali if she doesn’t stop investigating and several other things you will have to read about. Needless to say Sydney prevails, but how does she do it.
This is another wonderfully written book about Provincetown that even gives you some history of the area. If this is the first Provincetown Mysteries that you have read you will enjoy it but read them all and you will understand some of the interactions of the characters. I recommend that you read them all.

I love great first lines. “The victim generously waited to be murdered until the final vows had been spoken and we were officially declared married,” is among the best I’ve encountered. It drops you into the story and its wittiness gives you a taste of what’s to come.

Sydney Riley, owner of a Provincetown hotel and amateur sleuth, is standing at the altar when an uninvited guest drops in, crashing the party and ruining her day. In the eighth mystery of her series, Sydney does the only sensible thing: she goes on her honeymoon, leaving her staff and the police to clean things up.

Only they don’t. The mystery of the dead man is still unsolved when she returns, and she’s meanwhile stumbled on a hermit who lives in a shack in the dunes of Cape Cod and a helpful park ranger who isn’t sure what our heroine is up to.

The mystery deepens, and soon a widow and another shadowy figure appear on the scene. Threats, blackmail, and mayhem ensue. Sydney must solve what seems like Russian-nesting-dolls-worth of twists before it kills her.

The author brings a unique voice and a flair for misdirection in this tale, which, thankfully, will continue in future novels.

Is it too much to say that this story started with a real bang? Sydney Riley, Provincetown hotel co-owner, and Ali, her new husband and often undercover ICE agent, have barely said their vows when their new marriage is interrupted by a falling body. As the 10th installment in the series, I can’t wait to go back and read the rest. The two newlyweds are quickly off to their honeymoon by the sea in a rustic cottage and Sydney can hardly indulge in her quest to become the Miss Marple of Cape Cod. After some blissful ignorance, and some new interesting characters joining the crew, it’s back to reality and too soon Sydney is back to running the hotel and her husband must leave on assignment. Then things start to really heat up when her Bulgarian best friend befriends the grieving widow. This story is fun and fast paced once it starts rolling with multiple law agencies involved, a crooked scam, and mysterious unwanted hotel guests. Sydney and her best friend, Mirela, are relatable while evincing a little taste of Thelma and Louise. Once you get started, it’s hard to put it down. I’d label this a cozy mystery thriller and definitely recommend it.

This is the 8th book in a really fun cozy mystery series. Sydney, co-owner of Race Point Inn in Provincetown, and Ali finally get married and all was going well until an unexpected person literally drops in to the reception...Dead. Although Sydney is an amateur sleuth, she was convinced by her best friend, Mirela to leave on her honeymoon and let the police handle the crime. So she and her new husband Ari leave for their honeymoon at the Dunes where she meets two very different people there. But of course when she and Ari return, and the mystery of the murder is still now solved, she, Ali, Mirela and Mike involve themselves in an investigation. With some humor throughout, Sydney finds there is more to the victim than meets the eye and is threatened that Ali would be another victim if she doesn't drop her investigation. We are treated to page turning, twisted, murders, blackmail, and possible death herself, she will not give up until the very twisted surprising ending. I highly recommend this book as well as the whole series! The characters are well written and real and I could be friends with Sydney. I can't wait to see what's in store for Sydney, Mirela and Ali next! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

I've only read one other of these books and it was awhile ago, so I don't have the history with the characters that long time series readers will, but I could jump in easily enough.
There's a really good first paragraph, it got my attention and set the tone for the rest of the book. I also enjoyed the bit of history of the area.
Never did get the details of the curse or haunting. I would have liked to hear that story.
I wasn't sure how everything tied together until the end. At first it made the plot seem drawn out and slow moving, but the parts that seemed off track were woven in. It was well-thought out and came with some surprises.

Sydney is now half owner of the Inn and prepared to enjoy her wedding day. Everything changes when a body lands in the middle of her ceremony. Now Sydney, Ali, Mirela and Mike are involved in another murder investigation that reaches further than any of them can fathom.
I have enjoyed all the Sydney Riley mysteries immensely. The humor throughout the books keeps me laughing, especially when Sydney is talking to herself, but does not take away from the page turning whodunit that always keeps me guessing. With all the quirky characters each installment is like visiting old friends. I highly recommend The Honeymoon Homicides and the entire Sydney Riley series to mystery lovers.
